Yes! Wonderful fever-dream of a story, unbound from the awful shackles of time and space! I liked this one a lot - maybe I will put it in my stocking next Christmas in a similar attempt to avoid that season's spirit.
Victor, This is one of my favorites of your writing. Perfectly captures the dreamlike-hallucination state when someone's in an in-between place, either actually there or there due to a dose of heavy pharmaceuticals.
Hmnn...Victor. Very cool. To be cognizant of multiple deaths converging in a single time space reality. What fun! Here is a tiny excerpt from the last chapter of my novel.
—
Petra, unnerved but excited, asked Buddy, “What happens next?”
“I want to show you something.”
He took her by the hand and lifted them ten feet above the campfire where they hung suspended in the air. Petra noticed she was still sitting in her chair, as was Buddy.
“How do you do that? How can we be in two places at the same time?”
“If you only knew how many places we inhabit, it would blow your mind… Let’s not get distracted. Pay attention.”
Seated around the campfire were Petra and her three younger selves. Five feet to the left, Val and Buddy were kicking back in their chairs. To the right, at an equal distance, The Hound and Georgie sat holding hands. An infinity symbol that looked like the heating element on the bottom of a mid-century oven wrapped and encapsulated the scene. It appeared to be polished bronze and crossed over through the middle of the campfire.
You are adept at walking the lines between real and unreal, desperation and hope.
Thanks Trilety. Gotta keep on that tightrope!
Powerful stuff, Victor!
Thanks James! I hope you had/are still having a good trip.
I always save your posts until I have time to read them 2-3 times. This is another fabulous one, Victor.
And many thanks for doing that Jim, for taking the time. Glad you enjoyed it!

Russell, I haven't had any pharmaceuticals lately, but this could be residual effects. Many thanks for checking it out and dropping a message.

Thank for reading, Rachel. Glad you enjoyed it. Will check out more of Petra.
